It's That Simple

May all your problems have simple solutions
with simple joys graceful as silence

simple secrets shared—longevity, sky blue belief
elegant questions, gentle pain

true love between sexual partners
forgetting to fear death

not to despair, overflowing with love and grieving for the living
plants, poems, riches

just violence, justice
a radical reduction in the number of signs

dry desert or cold mountainside
music evolves toward simplicity

honesty, complexity, a clear commitment to speak to the reader
that can sustain consciousness

simply put we do not survive
to tell the story

rather than place myself in the sky
we have hope everyone alive is essential, consequential

except in one respect
they will be hungry, mortal and strong

walking and talking quietly
performing the history that surrounds us

thinking deeply or simply but not easily
nothing need be done but stay alive

shade my eyes from the sun
honey put on your shorts it’s gonna be 90 today

ubiquitous construction equipment
a job for every grackle, crow

nature will outlast the holocaust
it’s that simple to be immortal
